Objective

Destroy your opponent's castle — consisting of walls, soldiers, and a king — while defending your own. You win by being the first player to demolish every component of an opponent's castle, or by being the last player with any part of your castle still standing.

Setup

Castle Bomber is a proprietary party game designed for the DARTSLIVE3 electronic dartboard system. The board automatically assigns castle components and tracks all destruction and repair; no manual scorekeeping is required.

Players: 2–4 individual players, or 3–8 players in doubles teams. Each player (or team) is assigned a castle made up of walls (both white and colored), soldiers, and a king. The DARTSLIVE system maps specific numbers on the dartboard to each player's castle components — these assignments are displayed on screen at the start of the game.

Throwing order is determined by the machine or by agreement among players before play begins.

Rules of Play

Players take turns throwing 3 darts per visit. On each turn, a player aims at the board numbers assigned to an opponent's castle in order to destroy its components. The DARTSLIVE screen displays which numbers correspond to which parts of each player's castle.

Destroying walls:

  • White walls are destroyed with 1 hit on the assigned number.
  • Colored (non-white) walls are more fortified and require 2 hits to destroy. A single hit damages a colored wall but does not remove it.

Repairing your own walls: If you hit a number assigned to your own castle wall, that wall is repaired. A damaged colored wall is restored to full strength, and a destroyed white wall is rebuilt. This defensive mechanic is central to the game's strategy.

Bullseye – the siege weapon: Hitting the bullseye triggers a powerful area effect — it destroys all currently damaged walls at once, regardless of which player they belong to. This means it wipes out every opponent's weakened walls, but it also destroys any of your own walls that have sustained damage. Use it with great care.

Targeting soldiers and king: A player's soldiers and king can only be targeted after all of that player's walls have been destroyed. Once the walls are down, hits on the assigned numbers eliminate soldiers and the king, each worth 5 points of destruction value. The castle is fully destroyed only when every wall, every soldier, and the king have been eliminated.

Scoring

Castle Bomber tracks destruction progress rather than accumulating a traditional point total. The DARTSLIVE system displays each castle's remaining components visually on screen.

  • Each wall represents 1 point of castle integrity (white walls take 1 hit; colored walls take 2 hits to remove that 1 point).
  • Each soldier represents 5 points of castle integrity.
  • The king represents 5 points of castle integrity.

For example, if an opponent has one colored wall remaining (damaged once) and you hit the assigned number, that wall is destroyed. Once all walls are gone and you hit the number assigned to a soldier, that soldier is eliminated — removing 5 points of integrity from the opponent's castle in a single dart.

Winning

The game ends when one player's castle is fully destroyed — all walls, soldiers, and king eliminated. That player is knocked out. In a two-player game, the player who delivers the final blow wins immediately. In multiplayer games with 3 or 4 players (or teams), play continues until only one player's castle remains standing; the last player with any castle component intact wins.

Variations

Castle Bomber is a proprietary DARTSLIVE3 game and its specific configuration (number of walls, soldiers, and castle layout) may vary depending on the software version or machine settings. No widely recognized named variations exist outside the DARTSLIVE platform. The core attack-and-defend mechanic is unique to this game and does not derive from a traditional dart game parent format.

Strategy & Tips

Time your bullseye shots carefully: The bullseye destroys all damaged walls — including your own. Only aim for the bull when your walls are fully intact (or already fully destroyed) and your opponent has multiple damaged walls waiting to fall. A poorly timed bullseye can undo your own defenses.

Prioritize colored walls early: Colored walls require 2 hits to destroy, making them the most time-consuming targets. Attack them first so the damage is already in place when you or an ally hit the bullseye later to finish them off in bulk.

Don't forget to repair: Hitting your own assigned numbers rebuilds your walls. If your castle is under heavy attack, dedicating one or two darts per turn to defense can buy you critical extra rounds — especially in multiplayer where multiple opponents may be targeting you.

Read the board assignments carefully: At the start of each game, note which numbers correspond to which player's castle. Mistakenly hitting your own numbers when you intend to attack wastes offensive darts — though it does grant accidental repairs. Conversely, knowing the exact map lets you plan efficient three-dart visits that maximize damage on a single opponent.

In multiplayer, choose your target wisely: Spreading your attacks across multiple opponents damages everyone but finishes no one. Focus your assault on one player's castle at a time to eliminate them quickly, reducing the number of attackers aiming at your own castle each round.
