Objective
Yum Yum is a party-style penalty game available on DARTSLIVE electronic dartboards. The objective is to accumulate the fewest drink points (penalty points) across a series of mini-game rounds. Poor performance in each mini-game earns drink points, and the player who finishes with the most drink points loses — traditionally facing a lighthearted penalty such as buying a round of drinks for the group.
Setup
Yum Yum requires a DARTSLIVE electronic dartboard — the game is a built-in party mode and cannot be replicated on a standard bristle board without the machine's software to manage rounds, scoring, and mini-game selection. The game supports 2–4 individual players or 3–8 players in doubles teams.
Select Yum Yum from the dartboard's game menu. The machine will automatically determine the sequence of mini-game rounds and track each player's cumulative drink points. No manual scoreboard setup is required. Throwing order is typically established by the machine or by a preliminary closest-to-bull throw.
Rules of Play
Yum Yum consists of several mini-game rounds selected and managed by the DARTSLIVE machine. Players compete in each mini-game in turn, and performance is evaluated automatically. Worse performance in a given round results in more drink points being assigned to that player. The following mini-games are among those featured:
- Bull Challenge: Each player has 3 darts to hit at least one bullseye (outer bull or inner bull). Successfully landing a bull clears the challenge; failure to do so earns drink points.
- Fortune Count-Up: A count-up style round in which the score awarded for each dart varies depending on timing or other conditions set by the machine. The lowest scorer in the round receives the most drink points.
- Additional rotating mini-games are programmed into the machine and may vary. The DARTSLIVE software is designed so that the full variety of challenges is discovered through play.
Final Round Penalty: In the last mini-game of the session, all drink points earned are doubled. This rule ensures that no player is ever truly out of contention — or safely ahead — until the very end, creating a dramatic and unpredictable finish.
Because the machine handles all adjudication, disputes over scoring or rule interpretation are resolved by the DARTSLIVE system's automatic calculations. Players should simply throw when prompted and let the board tally results.
Scoring
Yum Yum uses an inverse scoring metric: the worse you perform in a mini-game, the more drink points you receive. Drink points function as penalty points and are cumulative across all rounds.
- Each mini-game awards drink points based on the player's relative or absolute performance in that round.
- In Bull Challenge, for example, a player who fails to hit any bull in 3 darts will receive drink points, while a player who successfully lands a bull clears the round without penalty.
- In the final round, all drink points earned are doubled — meaning a poor final performance can dramatically increase a player's total.
The DARTSLIVE machine automatically tracks and displays each player's cumulative drink point total after every round. There is no need for manual scorekeeping.
Winning
At the conclusion of all mini-game rounds, the player (or team) with the fewest cumulative drink points is declared the winner. The player with the most drink points is the loser and traditionally faces a penalty — most commonly buying drinks for the group, though any lighthearted forfeit agreed upon before the game begins may be substituted.
Because drink points are doubled in the final round, standings can shift significantly at the end. A player leading comfortably may still lose if they perform poorly in the closing mini-game, keeping the contest exciting for all participants through the very last dart.
Variations
Yum Yum is a proprietary DARTSLIVE party game, and no widely recognized named variations exist outside the machine's built-in format. The mini-game rotation itself may vary between sessions or software versions, providing natural variety each time the game is played. Players seeking similar party-style penalty games on DARTSLIVE may also explore other titles in the machine's party game library.
Strategy & Tips
Prioritize the Bull Challenge: Hitting a single outer bull (the 25-point ring) is well within reach for most players. In practice sessions before the game, throw a few rounds at the bullseye to build confidence — clearing Bull Challenge without penalty points is one of the easiest ways to keep your total low.
Stay competitive early, but save your focus for the finale: Because the final round doubles all drink points earned, a middling performance in early rounds is far less damaging than a collapse at the end. Manage your energy and concentration so you are at your sharpest when the stakes are highest.
Watch the leaderboard between rounds: The DARTSLIVE screen displays cumulative drink points after each mini-game. Keep an eye on the standings — if you are near the top in penalty points heading into the final round, you know you must perform well to avoid finishing last.
Embrace the party atmosphere: Yum Yum is designed as a social, lighthearted game. Encourage less experienced players, celebrate lucky throws, and remember that the real goal is group enjoyment. The penalty for losing should always remain fun and voluntary.
